Remove Lock Screen In Windows 10 (Before Anniversary Update)

This post has been written to guide those whom are sick of the lock screen on how to use registry to remove it, and also how to bring it back. This Guide is for semi-moderate skilled people not to say beginners cannot do it. But have a read if you don’t feel confident enough then ask a friend who knows computers to give it a shot.

1# Open Registry editor

  • i) Using the keyboard hold the windows button, then tap the r button.
  • ii) In the “RunAs” window that pops up type ‘regedit’ without the ‘.

! WARNING ! PLEASE FOLLOW INSTRUCTIONS CAREFULLY, MESSING WITH THE WRONG THINGS HERE MAY MESS YOUR COMPUTER! IF YOU DON’T FEEL COMPETENT THEN ASK SOMEONE WHO KNOWS A LITTLE MORE ABOUT COMPUTERS BUT PLEASE READ AHEAD TO SEE IF YOU CAN.

2# Now using the side bar on the left navigate to Personalization.

  • i) Open HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE
  • ii) Open SOFTWARE
  • iii) Open Policies
  • iv) Open Microsoft
  • v) Open Windows
  • vi) Open Personalization

Down the bottom the address bar should be ”Computer\HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Policies\Microsoft\Windows\Personalization”

3# Now in the right window you will see a registry key “(Default)”, if there is another called   “NoLockScreen” then skip to item (iv).

  • i) Right Click the right window area so the popup menu appears
  • ii) Highlight new then select DWORD (32-bit) Value.
  • iii) Name the key ‘NoLockScreen’ without the ‘ then press enter.
  • iv) Now Double click the key “NoLockScreen” and a window “Edit DWORD 32-bit VALUE”  will appear.
  • v) In the box “Value Data” put ‘1’ without the ‘ , Then click Ok.

Now you can close Registry editor and you can restart the computer, if for any reason you would like the lock screen back. Just go back to the “NoScreenLock” key open the “Edit DWORD 32-bit Value” window and change the “Value Data” from 1 to 0.
